Week 10

It has been one month since my last post. The last four weeks have been "life as usual" for the most part. Therapy, appointments and getting back to a full time work schedule has been more taxing than I had hoped.

My training for road racing has been all but sacrificed. Work, travel, this surgery and recovery have all taken too much time out of my base training. After some discussions with my unofficial (and hence unpaid) coach John Behrens, I have decided to drop most of the "structure" in my training and just ride as I can until June. I can then get back on a training schedule for the Fall cyclocross season. I will probably do a few races on the road before then but only for "fun".

To celebrate my lack of structure, I did a 96 mile, 5hr 30min ride on Saturday with the Swami's long group. I actually held in there better than I thought I would - but to say I was pasted to the couch the rest of the weekend would be an understatement.

Enough cycling. As for the jaw recovery, I am still experiencing some significant numbness in my lower lip area. This compromises my table manners and I now have no reservation about eating with a napkin stuffed in my shirt collar. Hopefully it will get better in time...

Here are a few before/after. The aspect ratios are a little off but close enough...
